| Title: | Site Wide Safety Case |
| Subtitle: | Nuclear Safety Schedule & Schedule of Reference Safety Statements |
| Client: | Magnox North Ltd. |
An outcome of a recent Periodic Safety Review at one of the client’s Magnox Power Stations was to re-structure the existing Reference Safety Case Summaries into a single Site Wide Safety Case (SWSC) document covering all Plant Areas and common services. It was also required to complement the SWSC with a re-aligned Schedule of Reference Safety Statements (SRSS) and the production of a Nuclear Safety Schedule (NSS).
We were asked to form part of the Safety Case Author team to assist in the consolidation of the safety case summaries, and make suitable contributions as required. We were also asked to take the lead in the production of the SRSS and NSS schedules in accordance with a pre-defined framework. Several thousand items of engineering data were identified and assembled in the computer based NSS from various sources, verified, approved and published for eventual use by client engineers in the preparation of safety cases, plant modification proposals and Reference document maintenance.
Various NSS implementation options were considered and a cost benefit analysis carried out to compare the relative merits of each option. This included the production of a Requirement Specification which was used to secure budget prices for an implementation in a proprietary database. Initially, the NSS was implemented in Microsoft Word. We also investigated the feasibility of using the Microsoft Sharepoint tool to support more sophisticated search facilities within prototype databases containing NSS data samples.
